Looking through a jar of foreign coins I had, an idea sparked in my mind to collect coins with birds on them. So my question is, what all countries have coins that feature birds in some way?

What I have so far:
Plenty of German coins.
Plenty of Mexican coins.
Plenty of Bahamas coins.
A few Trinidad and Tobago coins.
1928 Irish 1p(?), hen and chicks, the coin that sparked the idea.
1979 Irish 50p.
1987 Argentina 1 centavo, emu/ostrich.
And of course, a few Canadian loons.

I know there's plenty I don't have, but I know little about foreign coins so I have no idea where to start making the list. Any suggestions? Even if it's just a bird in a crest design works, like T&T and Bahamas.

And to Fuzzy, that is indeed the coin that inspired me, though mine is a touch more worn than yours. It's still in lovely shape for the age. I should post pictures before my editing time runs out!

Also the Flying Eagle cent is the big one on my list of US coins to get, I just don't have the money to get a good one at the moment. I'd rather have good details than go for a filler.

You're right, I forgot the Canadian centennial coins. There's also the falcon quarter from last year, but I haven't found one of those in the states yet. Also great link Fioti, thanks.

I have over 10,000 world coins in my collection. Of those, my coin database tells me 759 of them have birds on them. So there's plenty to choose from, ranging from ancient to modern.

You may wish to consider exactly what you wish to include as a "bird". Heraldic depictions of birds, for example the double-headed eagle on the Maria Theresa thaler posted by Arkie, are often not very "realistic-looking". Some of the representations of an eagle on modern German coins, for example, are extremely stylized. Then there are the mythological bird-like creatures, such as the Phoenix on some Greek coins and the Garuda on some Southeast Asian coins. Even some renderings of dragons are more bird-like than reptile-like.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis

There's Alexander the Great featured holding a falcon in my avatar. The greek tetradrachm I like most, is the Athens one featuring an owl as shown here: http://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces34551.html

As Sap said above, birds on coinage goes backt to antiquity.

Dasalo, you need to contact Nevol, she is a collector of bird coins and a keeper of lists. She might be able to help you.
