I picked this cent yesterday off ebay.

The sellers picks weren't too good, but I felt this is a chance to get a deal, knowing it can't be too bad graded XF40 by NGC.

With these pics, how much would you risk on such coin?

Thanks for looking .

Just saw that the same exact coin was also sold a month and a half ago on ebay, and my seller was not on either side of the deal.

I'm wondering if there's something wrong with the coin after all (switching hands between 4 owners in 45 days? ).

A bit more of digging into it got me confused - it was sold on Heritage less than a month before first sold on ebay.

I guess it was just grossly overgraded by NGC. from the Heritage photos, it looks more like a XF40 reverse with a VF25 obverse.

On August 10th, it was sold on Heritage for 79$.
On September 5th, sold on ebay for 68$.

I bought it for 42$.

These are the Heritage photos:

Way to go - thats a very good price for a nice Cud!

From Thurman & Margolis "The Cud book" it's listed as ICN-1862-10RB

Nice detective work too!

TPGs doesn't assign color to copper nickel cents (1857-1863, plus 1856 eagles and 1864 CuNi indians).

The front does look to be a combination of having been weakly struck and uneven wear. The front is probably VF25, especially with the hits and scratches.
