This one is sitting in my Whitman 9434 type set. What would you grade it? (Don't mind the white specs.. it's dust that somehow got in the way..)

I think I'd say AU50. Beautiful example.

Interesting.
I'm thinking MS-64 or -65.
There's a bit of strike softness at the 8-9 o'clock position.
Only see one obvious mark at the lower left of the "2".
Die break about 9-10 on the reverse.
I like the coin.

If I read the images correctly they are from a scan, not a camera.

You are correct; they are a scan. Perhaps I should try to get some photos with a camera on this one and see if it makes a difference.

I'll bump to 55 based on the photo's. My concern was the reverse wear but the pics are much better. This is nor my series though so I could be very wrong.

I could be off but I will say it grades MS-63 BN. I can't quite find any wear and the surfaces look kind of lustrous. The shield lines seem to have a lot of small marks which I think may keep it from a higher grade. Also, I am assuming the scans present a more accurate representation of the color than the photos.

The only thing I can say is "Fancy 5"...I'd give it an AU55 (keeping the "5" theme going)

MS62BN and would possibly go cleaned with a details grade, the reverse and the color just scream cleaned to me, I've looked at a few of these before

Fancy 5 the more common of the two 1865 varieties. Great die cracks and rim Cuds or "crumbling"
