I have a 1996 and a 2001 Penny that have odd straight lines on them. I was just wondering if anyone knows what they are. Thanks.

The ones on the reverse of the coin are called Die Scrapes... it's damage from feeder fingers. They usually travel either NW/SE(in your case) or NE/SW.

Sorry but I don't know what lines you are referring to on the obverse.

Thanks for the info. There are no lines on the obverse. I just attached those photos because people usually request to see the whole coin.

I see a big fingerprint on the obverse. I agree with coinaki on the reverse.
