Hmm.. $1000 pretty high. Unless your looking at some very good quality Morgans.

Price relates directly to grade, and $250 per coin means you want them better than MS63 each - although the 1885 is a pretty pricey piece and has a bearing on the final number. However, this means you need to be able to estimate grade yourself. Where do you stand in this regard?

That's a smokin' deal for the lot if MS condition in OGP.

thanks for all the feeback so far guys! i was thinking of initially offering him $400 for the lot - considerably lower than the price he told me he wanted. i am not a coin grader by any means - I have general knowledge but nothing professional - neither does he though - he knows very little and is going based on the whitman Red Book lol my plan is to buy them and have them sent in to PCGS for grading and hang on to them at least until I get a duplicate coin of a higher grade or possibly indefinitely as a part of my collection. at this point I only own one CC morgan - a GSA 1882 sorry for my ignorance but what is OGP ?

$400 is an extreme lowball. Assuming they're Mint State - probably a safe assumption in OGP - the 1885 alone is certainly worth more than $400. The others are probably $200 each, minimum, but varying by grade. But that 1885 is the key; in MS65 it's a $1000 coin. That's why grading skills are imperative.

The 80 and 81 are good dates as well the only "common" is the 84 which is at minimum worth $175 (assuming MS). The 80 and 81 are again at least $400 a pop (assuming MS)then the 85 is a $500 coin as well.

In my experience, if you offer a very low bid ...you might not get the coins at all.
If possible check with a local dealer and see what they would offer. When I buy coins like that, I offer the dealer amount, or a little less In ca we I want to sell some of them.
As Superdave posted, the 1885 is the key to this deal. GSA coins sell higher then raw, but a raw 1885 CC greysheet's at $600 in MS-60' so a good dealer might pay $360 to $400 for just that coin. Of course if the coin is higher than MS-60 ... The price would get higher.
If I was buying these four coins, and the boxes were in good shape, with COA I would have no problem paying $600 or $700. If the coins look like they are better grades, $800 would still be a very good deal.
Of course the $1000 is not a bad deal ...but it is always nice to get as good as deal as possible.
Edit ... After I posted I saw I was looking at the wrong dates ...did not see one was a 1880 CC. It greysheet's raw MS-60 at $455. $1000 is really a good price for these coins.

Let's put it this way - shadowtrooper's estimate of the 1880 & 1881 is relevant - I'd throw $1000 at the guy for those. Any much less (maybe GR58's $800 at lowest), and I'd be a bit morally-bothered by shortchanging the guy. Ensure they're original in the holder, and they're Mint State, and take them and run.

Your question is a quadratic equation... There are so many variables... For instance.... Is the 1880 a reverse of '78 or '80. In GSA holders, the coins should be MS (and say so - "Uncirculated"). You're mighty close to $2K for the lot instead of $1K IMO. PG

" Show Him the Money " and run. Check this page as a guide PCGS used to take these out of the OGP and slab them with a GSA label. They have recently come out with a new slab that encompasses the whole GSA holder, much nicer.

He's asking $1k? Offer him $900, I'll pay you $1050 for them. Easy $150 for you. And yes, I'm dead serious.
