True, dialog. The next step would be like New Zealand. The elimination of the 5 cent and rounding to the nearest 10 cent increment.

I think the Mint would plate animal droppings if they thought it would lower costs.

In terms of pocket change, they certainly seem to be disappearing much more quickly in Ontario than they are on the east coast. Whenever I'm back home I do my best to stock up!

Has anyone else noticed this regional disparity?

I think the NCLT silver turd (of course with a Venetian glass fly) would the first indication.

Perhaps the head offices in downtown Toronto are most active in ARP. I would assume the Bank of Canada deals with one central entity for each bank, rather than individual branches, so the head office would be the likely flow through for coinage and returns.

The nickel dollars cannot be melted fast enough... only then I can unleash my MS-65 and MS-66 hoard....

Problem also for you SPP is the plethora of Nickel mint sets that the RCM produced. I bought a 1971 from a local dealer for $2 about a week ago. Not all of them will be that cheap, but they are definitely common and cheap.

Never get the machine rolled nickels. The machines take the pure nickel coins out.

Nickel mint sets, are not the same as nickel business strikes. I was referring to the latter.

Very true.

I use mostly mint set coins for the nickel part of my big collection book. Most others probably use business strikes.

i think they are dissapearing very quickly.
today I went through both my put it aside (maybe key date, nickle, maybe I see something and ill check later with a loupe) pile as well as my not gone through bin of change nickles.

in the put it aside I got about about an even 3 way split between post 2003 pile, post 1990 pile and pre 1990 pile.

in the not gone through pile I got all post 2003 except for a few 2001 plated and a 96.

i did manage to find a 2000p though that ill have to post when I can find the camera.(i think my wife stole it again)
