I may send this raw 1913 10 Dollar gold coin to ICCS for grading. I thought I would post pictures for your grade opinions before sending. It is not a recently released BoC hoard coin, as I have been fortunate to have been the caretaker for this coin for over 30 years. Thank you for your opinions.
The condition is right up there with the slabbed coins that have been marketed by the BoC.
MS64.
From the numbers of these things that turn up in very high grades, I assume that they saw very little or no circulation.
It is debatable if this one should be slabbed or not, because there are so many slabbed examples already out there. Because of this I would be more inclined to buy a raw coin, unless you wish to protect it within the slab, or perhaps ebay it against the competition.
They are of exactly the same fineness weight and diameter as the U.S. gold eagle. Because of this I have little doubt that the CDN $10 gold coin has been faked in good gold, using slightly worn U.S. gold Eagles as blanks. I have certainly seen published views on this before now.
I think this one is right up there with the MS-65 examples... definitely worth a shot of sending it in...
