Does this mm seem unusually high up toward the date or is this fairly standard? I have noticed that for 1964-D they tend to be on the high side, but I thought this one pushed the limits. Any opinions would be appreciated, thanks.

Here is a "normal" placement:

If it is in the triangular area bounded by the date, the bust, and the rim, and it isn't touching any of them, it is considered normal.

also, mint marks were added to working dies by hand until 1989, so their placement will vary

They don't get interesting until they are in the digits area. They usually moved the location if they are not in a desired area. Here is an example: 1956D-1MM-016

These in later die states are not as collectable. The RPM disappears,

The mint mark punch is added AFTER the die is completed. So the punch was over the 9. The die punch realized his mistake and placed it in a more correct location.

There is not a normal location. As long as they are under the date and east of the bust, the is OK.

Interesting stuff, all very educational for me. A lot fewer mm's here on the east coast. Thanks!

I know what you mean Sudz. I still haven't found a 2013-D Roosevelt. I'm in South Carolina. Sometimes Denver's are just hard to come by here.

Some of us beg for anything new.
So far I have seen
Cents 1 LP1. 2 LP2, 1 LP3, 2010's and 2011's are fairly common, so far no 2012 or 2013's.
Nickels 1 2003, 6 2004 Peace, 3 2004 keelboats, 1 2005 buffalo, 6 2005 Ocean, 0 2006, 1 2007, several 2008, 0 2009, 20101 nd 2011 fairly prevalent, no 2012 or 2013.
dimes everything through 2011, no 2012 or 2013's yet.
Quarters, 4 territory quarters, 4 ATB Quarters two of those from 2010.
Dollars, They have done something other than Washingtons haven't they?
