Parys Copper Mine, Anglesey, Wales - halfpenny token 1788:

How-Far-Back-Can-We-Go?-Second-Edition!-Ended-At-1492-Waiting-On-1491

The Parys Copper Mining Company dominated the World copper market in the late 18th century. Faced with a nationwide shortage of small change - but with their own plentiful supply of copper - they issued around 10,000,000 penny and halfpenny tokens between 1787 and 1793, and these were accepted even in Southern England.

Here is my 1788 French Ecu. I purchased this about fifteen years ago from the Canadian dealer Randy Weir.

Paul - that's a beautiful Ecu. One year before the French Revolution!

1787 Great Britain George III sixpence - the only issue of this denomination between 1760 and 1815!

I suspect we'll be seeing a lot of these today!

Unfortunately, as the oldest piece I own, my 1787 6d is where my participation in this topic comes to an end (for now, at least)
