East-African 10 cents 1941. One of the rather common colonials. British East Africa used to have the rupee as a currency in the 19th century. After WW I, much the former 'Deutsch Ost-Afrika' was added and a decimal system with a Shilling divided in 100 cents was adopted in 1921.

A 5 Penniä of Finland, struck from copper--I like the toning! Interesting that Finland issued some copper coins during WWII, as it was a strategic metal.

Nice looking One Rupee.
I really do like seeing all these different coins.
Sometimes it reminds me of some I want, or some I may already have. I will have to dig into my boxes to see if I have a one Rupee.

I had to work all day, so I did not have much time to find a coin to post for today. This is a year where I don't have any coins selected to post. So I just tried to take some pictures of a U.S. year set, just some coins I put together. 1941 Cent through Half Dollar.

Beautiful set GrR58 It must have been nice to work at the mint when bins would have been full of shiny new WLs and Mercs.

To go with the Rupee, I give you the Half Rupee: This coin has a typical "security edge" - reeded with a central trough with repeating dots in it. This type of edge can be seen on coins from many nations, but India continued to use it well into the 1980s on various denominations. Strangely, this coin has Urdu text, but no Hindi. To get back at the British and the Pakistanis, modern Indian coins have English and Hindi, but no Urdu, although the very first post-colonial pattern coins include all three languages. Sadly, the country was partitioned before these coin designs could be produced and circulated - they are quite lovely.
