I've always wondered about the font used in the date on this 1924 rouble (and on the 50 Kopek -Poltina- as well).

It looks as though the engraver originally designed '1994' and corrected the second '9' into '2' subsequently.

Two french francs minted in brass for the "Chambres de Commerce de France" dated 1924. Whereas France continued to mint silver coinage during WW I and even upto 1920, they failed to maintain price stability in the postwar period. Silver coins were hoarded and the country suddenly found itself without change. The "chambers of commerce" brass coinage was meant to be a "temporary patch" (hence the inscciption "bon pour"), however they have been circulating far longer than expected.
