Hey everyone, I just picked up these two coins today, and I just wanted to get some thoughts and opinions on them. I bought them from a very reputable dealer, and they seem to be fine in terms of edges and weights. I paid about $80 for the pair. Do you think that I did alright?

Nice coins. The imaginary head 1811 is such an interesting coin and such a great little piece of history. I always wonder what Ferdinand VII said when he first saw one.

Very nice buy for the price, not for the Lima piece (which is "eh"... and I've really noticed lately that the prices they seem to realize in average grade are not impressive for what you might expect)... but for the Guat. piece. Some surface issues present, not terrible (I would probably tickle some of that protected-area crud with a toothpick and some moisture to even out the look), but that's still a $125 piece, maybe a touch more on a good day.

It always amazes how some dealers in this day and age (and you referred to the seller as "reputable"... which presumably translates to being somewhat capable) can sell "foreign coins" so cheaply. Even if you just open Krause as your only research, it's pretty obvious that Guatemala mint is a much better type (my 10-year old Spain, etc. Krause book shows these dates of Guatemala at $200 in VF).

jfransch & realeswatcher-Thanks for the help! Any guesses as to the realistic value of my 1811 Peruvian 8R?
