For some reason, in 1978 I put away a roll each of 1978 Nickels, Dimes, and Quarters from the bank; all unopened. [I wish the quarters were 1991!]. Don't know why I saved them at the time 'cause I only collect one coin per year of anything. I forgot about it but found the three rolls last month when cleaning out a room.

Are these worth more than face value to collectors or should I just spend them?

Hi punman, Well... they are pure nickel.

But, the 1978 .25 cents has 2 varieties large denticles and small denticles.

Sell them to a dealer, IMO...even if you get face value. They are undoubtedly in good shape and collectors can then purchase them for collections. If you put them out into circulation, the ARP will get them and destroy them.

Quite possibly worth more than face value. If you can find the buyers. Figure you should have some 63s and 64s in each roll. Maybe a 65 or two.

Okay - so maybe I will open the quarters and take a peek. If these came direct from the mint to the bank and then to me, would you not expect that they would all have the same denticles if they were made and packaged on the same day or is that not how it works?
