6 mint sets from the 1970's. $2 a piece.
Plus an 1852 Bank of Upper Canada one penny token. Interesting coin I was not aware of until today. Edited by DoubleEagle20 11/02/2013 8:27 pm

I assume a Bank of Upper Canada one penny token is one pence under the old British system of 240 pence to one pound, correct everyone?

Yess, old pence.
Its a whole new world if you get into pre-Confederatiob tokens.
MANY from Province of Canada, Upper Canada, Lower Canada and all the Maritimes.

Think I'll focus on Bank of Upper Canada right now. Seem affordable and could be fun.

Good score there for $2.00 each.
I once had an opportunity to purchase 10 mint sets for $3.00 each from a dealer who "just wanted to get rid of the darn things." Later I realized that he had also included the 1991 set. Eventually I sold all of the sets but the 1991 for $30.00 to someone who wanted to acquire the half dollars, thus acquiring the 1991 at no cost.

Great price.
But, also rather saddening that collectors show such utter disdain for very high quality nickel UNC sets.
Closing in on face value like 1968/1969. Is that the ultimate fate of all UNC sets?

That's the one thing I cannot understand, why is the nickel coins so neglected? They start at 47 years old and are still mainly at face value. Yet the large pennies aren't silver and some go for high prices. You can't find a large penny for a penny. I've also seen some loonies go for $5. What is the discrepancy in your opinion? Secondly do you ever think it will change?

I think the low prices are a great opportunity for collectors. They give the kids and others something very affordable to collect. A complete date and mint mark set of the pure nickel series is not as easy as many think. Eventually prices will go up on this uniquely Canadian series. Other countries were able to do some of their denominations in pure nickel, but I do believe Canada was the only one to do all except its lowest value coin in it.
