Please remember it is just a guide, the best advice is to see what is actually out there and judge for yourself. Sometimes the book has a couple of errors in print. Sometimes the price does not reflect the scarcity. eg Would gladly pay over book for a NS-2B2 and would pass on paying book for a average PC-6D.

I own this one. As with any other guide...ignore the pricing. As a reference all the info seems to be there....it is laid out rather oddly though...imo

I'm going to see if I can complete a Bank of Upper Canada set and see if the interest to go further "catches". If so, then I will buy the book.

When you say set do you mean Breton or Charlton or going further and collecting by Corteau?

Just a simple date set. It looks like the one penny date set would be 1850, 1852, 1854 and 1857. I assume same dates for half penny.
Please correct me if I am wrong. Newbie to the the pre-confederation issues.

Yes,that is the correct dates.Maybe for the 1854 you choose the crosslet 4 variety for the penny and half. For the 1850 penny maybe one with the dot.(Just a suggestion, these tend to be popular and always in demand)

Cool! Thanks for the suggestions. Local dealer says he has about 100 of the coins. I am going to go paw through them. I'll see if I can find the crosslet 4 and 1850 with a dot. Next question, where is the dot located?

Hi DoubleEagle The dot is located between the 2 lower tips of the cornucopias on the reverse (just above the "PE" in "PENNY"). Also be on the lookout for both the upside down and the rightside up reverses on both the 1/2 penny and the one penny from 1852. The Royal Mint minted them with both reverse rightside up, while the Heaton Mint minted the reverse upside down.

if you want a quick, cheap, digital download of a token catalog check this out: $10, written 100 years ago but includes drawings (yes drawings!) of just about every token imaginable, along with brief history and mintage numbers for each. http://www.abebooks.com/servlet/Boo...Bthe%2BcoinsI'm far from an expert but I've collected just about all the bank tokens and a dozen or so of the more popular merchant tokens, if you have any questions shoot me a PM
