So I have had a bit of a veterinary emergency with two dogs and it is seriously tapping my financial resources. I may have to sell some of my coins to pay the bills. I have a very small amount of silver US coinage that I just threw into a "junk" holder and remembered it tonight. I got the coins (a no-date Walking Liberty half dollar, three no-date Mercury dimes, and this coin here) from a friend who moved to Europe and wanted to offload his junk silver cheap and fast. Tonight, while re-checking it all, I realized this particular dime had a readable date and mint mark. Further research indicates this is actually a somewhat sought-after year and mint mark combo. I would like the input of Mercury dime enthusiasts, as Mercury dimes are not my forte. Can anyone give me info on if this is worth more than just melt? I personally estimate the grade at poor to AG.

It's not worth much... but definitely worth more than melt. I've bought nicer ones for $20, so this one, maybe $10? Sorry about your dog, hope they get better! Coins are nothing compared to my cats, I'd sell pretty much everything I had if it would save them.

Severely cleaned but it will definitely go for more that 10-12 bucks on ebay. Start it at .99 cents and let people bid.

Looks by my eye, and from the pic that this is a 1925 and not 1921. I see the "belly" of the five in the worn area and the crossbar for the five is there in remnant form, maybe even intentionally altered. The lack of the serif of the one also makes me think this

Sorry to say but it's a 5...

Also, sorry to hear about your dog!

*added, I like to use this lighting to see the wear and it helps with other stuff.*

Thanks for the input everyone. I looked at t his under a loupe and a microscope and it definitely looks like a 1 to me. I will take it to my LCS to see what they think too. Either way, I never thought it would be a $1,000.00 coin, but at least I know if I am going to have to cash it in, it should go on the Bay instead of the melting pot. Thanks everyone.
