I need your help on determining the date of this coin. I've looked at it forever. I originally thought it was an 1888, but then I Saw that the middle "8", is smooth on the right-hand edge, not split like an "8" would be.
What do you think?

Really? I thought the third digit may have been a 9. the side of it is smooth unlike an 8 would be. 9<

Like I said based on the pics.... corrosion on the 8 perhaps?

oh okay... I'm trying to fill a folder (i know, I know, folders aren't good. But these are low grade coins.) so I needed to know the date.
