I usually don't shop on ebay for ASEs, as prices are way too high, but I saw this auction, and thought it might worth the 43$ I payed for it.

I don't really collect those, so I'm pretty much clueless when it come to grading.

How'd you grade it? MS65?
What's its value?

Thanks for looking .

I don't know much about these... probably MS-64 due to those holes on the coins plus the scratches (details maybe?)...

Unfortunately, anything under MS69 is just bullion. These are not circulating, so no one collects them in "honest wear" condition, they are either (near) perfect or bullion worth spot.

However 1996 is the lowest mintage of any bullion eagles, so many people attach a premium to them . I don't because there are still almost 4 million minted and they are still plentiful, but many people do. $43 is about what people are willing to pay for a 1996 in any condition.

$43 seems right but that's all the coin is worth at this grade. I'd grade it MS64 because of those pitts and some scratches. This is bad for bullion that's otherwise supposed to be near perfect.

Proofs and Unc. are supposed to be near perfect. They are minted, handled and boxed individually. Bullion coins on the other hand are machine fed and slid into trays , counted and then slid into tubes. It is a far greater feat to find a perfect bullion ASE . The number of perfect coins out there, comes from the pool of 40 million to choose from not the care with which they are minted.
