Go beyond the monster early quarters and other high-dollar trophies, and you'll find a wide selection of affordable material in the Newman sale. It would be nice to score an affordable piece or two.

I'm hoping to score a pedigreed piece... we'll see. I'd imagine they'll all draw strong prices.

What is the Newman collection and how do you find it?

The Newman Collection currently being auctioned by Heritage is the sale of "extras" from the collection of Eric P. Newman, one of the greatest living numismatists. His primary collection resides in an art museum on the campus of Washington University in St Louis.

I'm looking at some Liberty Seated dimes at the auction but the prices are going to be very high so I am not sure what is truly attainable for an average collector with an average budget. The coins however are awesome to look at. Newman was an MIT graduate and an attorney in the 30's and 40's which means he was acquiring pieces 70 years ago that are tens of thousands of dollars in today's market. His Pattern Collection is just ridonk. Go check out the pics on HA

The early Quarters and Dollars are of amazing quality and have been in his collection since the 1930's and are pedigreed to one of the best collections in history, Col. Green (Google him).
Most are the best of type and have amazing toning. I'd wager the prices on these coins will break records due to condition and never having been for sale in modern times. High end collectors have waited years to get their hands on these coins
It's a one of a kind collection...

I'll be watching some of the Half Dimes to see how well they do with the pedigree factored in.

I will probably make a run at a few. Maybe the fact that most will sell over guide prices will help eliminate some bidders.

This is part 2 for the Newman stuff. I was at the first auction. I agree lots of beauties in there... Unfortunately this comes at a bad time for me. But, hope you all nab some stuff!

I looked, but there is nothing for me in my specialization.

Anyone see the 1796 quarter? MS-67. Current bid is $1.1 million . The label he had for it said $100. Then it was crossed out and he wrote in $150. That is amazing!
