I received this badly banged 1997 D Roosevelt dime in change today. I'd like to know if the anomaly was produced at the Mint, or is just some damage that happened later during its life. Would it have any value?

The damage is on opposite ends of the coin, and on both sides. The edge of the major damage is quite flat, with a sharp edge.

On the obverse, the large damage shows some pattern, but it is quite smooth on the reverse.
