Hello and welcome. I've moved the thread to World Coins for you.

The coin is indeed from Iran, a 5000 dinars dated either AH 1296 or 1297 (the pic is too small to read the really tiny date). That's AH dates, not the more modern SH dates on Iranian coins, equating to AD 1880.

Further, the picture of this coin in the Krause catalogues and on NGC is wrong; they've put the wrong reverse picture there. Do a Google search for "Iran 5000 dinars 1297" and you'll find a whole bunch of coins that look exactly like yours, and none like the picture in Krause. Example.
