Can't really figure out which variety this one is? Picked it up today at a LCS for a decent price hoping to score the rare one. Don't think it is though. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

N-3, I think. Doubled profile, open C.

Actually N-4. Note the position of the D relative to the leaf tip. I've seen the doubling on a few 1834 varieties as well as 1833. Must have been that the mint had maintenance cutbacks those years.

Both N-3 and N-4 are large 8 small *, but have slightly different reverses.

By rare one, I'm assuming you mean the N-5 large 8 large * medium letter. If you're looking for the N-7, it was proof only and there aren't many out there.

I stand corrected, OldSkool. I was thrown off by the wear on the "C," thinking it Open. In my own defense, I have neither your experience nor your reference material; I do copper attributions solely from what I can find on the Internet.

So much for the Internet.
