I've heard talk of these. What are they? Why are they different? Are they rare? Are they valuable? What does "brown" and "blue" refer to?
Thank you for taking time with my questions.

It describes the original packaging used. The 1971~1974 40% Silver Uncirculated Eisenhower dollars came in blue envelopes. The 1971~1974 40% Silver Proof Eisenhower dollars came in brown boxes.

Don't forget the cool little blue tokens added in with the Blue Ikes. Too bad they didn't date these tokens, that would be a collection in it self.

Brown Box, silver proofs... Blue envelope, silver unc... As for value. They are 40% silver, so there is an intrisic value there. And they do carry a premium due to their nature as well.

Once upon a time, they were going to be incredibly rare and lots of us fell for the hype. 40 years later they are worth about what we paid for them...

Quote: I knew you would come and show your photos Who me? *he says with an innocent look on his face* You say that as if I am predictable. Quote: ...they were going to be incredibly rare... As is being discussed in the somewhat hijacked Ike thread, mint sets are being ripped apart at a steady clip. This applies to these coins as well. So yeah, they ARE becoming more and more rare in OGP. And quality ones outside of the OGP are becoming more scarce as well.

Smokeriderdon;
ANACS will grade them in the original packaging?

mfhorn, yes indeed. They do not guarantee them as they have no way to actually seal the case, but they do grade them. They do the same for the GSA Morgans.

Check ebay if you want them for a good price. Make sure it's auctions. I checked the "buy it now" price so I didn't overpay.

Yeah I'm notorious for breaking into cases and "sets" to put the coins in an album. I never really cared for all that extra plastic

That's why these are one of the rare Moderns I'll happily advise someone to buy as an "investment," for much the same reason as OGP GSA Morgans. Even if they're not rare yet, they will be. Buy them when you find them; just don't pay much premium yet.
