Obviously this is just for fun. I pulled this out of the clean-out pit below the pulper at a paper mill (ca 1980). The company recycled newspaper into new paper, so lots of chemicals went in. Cleaning "the pit" was the most disgusting job, but all kinds of stuff gets into a pile of old newspaper, so the possibility of finding something interesting added a treasure hunt factor. Paper money even survived sometimes (barely).

Interesting piece, might have once been used as a watch fob.

Thanks IndianGoldEagle, I never thought of watch fob but now that seems obvious! Not knowing pocket watches, I see that some fobs used thin leather straps and not chains, hence the elongated attachment. Doesn't seem like a professional job either - there's a blob of solder near the CA.

Yes, "harshly cleaned" and I might add "artificially toned". :)
