I just found these two dimes in my change, and I hadn't noticed luster like this before. Under a microscope it looks like fine scratches going in different directions on different parts of the field. The pair of coins are similar, but slightly different. The reverse is similar, just harder to see.

Does anyone know what causes this?

Hummm that solid line that runs NW to SE on the first coin looks familiar. I think its related to this one !

That is just a really long scratch that showed up remarkably well in the photo, unfortunately.

The OP's coin looks like there was some grease/water/oil on the surface of the die making the appearance look like that. They are probably both from the same die pair. Thus the similar look to each coin.
