We have discussed over and over again whether we should continue to allow bidders outside of the US. Part of the problem is that I would never want to block any of our forum members; the other problem is that you lose a lot of bids if you don't offer worldwide. We just had another buyer from Spain who has said that he can only pay by Paypal. At least he attempted to use one of the other options provided and tried to complete the transaction. Since he at least made an effort, I'm trying to work out a mutual agreement to not complete the transaction. I know that, if I wanted to purchase something and the language of the auction was one that I didn't understand, I'd be translating the blocks of text if that was the only way to do it to be sure of the terms and conditions. Unfortunately, many people don't want to take this kind of time before spending their money or they hope that, once the auction is over, the seller will feel like they have no choice but to give in. We've been burned by "giving in" before, so we can't do that anymore. Oh well, this is one of those situations where you just have to accept it and move on. We haven't heard from the buyer, so I guess he's not going to accept the mutual withdrawal. Since he's trying to sell now, I think it would be in his best interests, but quite frankly, he doesn't seem like he's the brightest crayon in the box.

It is legal on ebay europe to ask for 4% extra for paypal ( or 5% or whatever ) and paypal also charges both sides like an additional 1.5% in conversion cost from euro to dollars (3% in total ) I guess you could offer certain items on ebay germany like some US people allready do and mayby it is possible to do that parallel with the american ebay auction ( I am not sure you can synchronise but you could offer it on ebay germany and say worldwide which would show up in any americans search attempt I guess ) I regularly pay from 10 to 18 euro in mail cost between germany and belgium and I think US mail will get the coin in europe for that price so if the european accepts the mailcost he will also accept 5% extra when paying paypal because he has seen those conditions so many times before on his local ebay Paypal plus 5% cost .

It is against ebay's rules for a US seller to charge Paypal fees to the buyer. Also, the settings on our Paypal account would need to be changed and we're back to the No Seller Protection situation.

You're kidding. Something else I didn't know. I've seen numerous folks that state that Paypal will only be accepted with a fee. Hmmmm. Is this a reportable violation, or do you just buy and only pay for the winning price and shipping...

If it's a US seller, it's a reportable violation.

Unfortunately for any european buyer it is paypal or nothing unless you accept straight credit cards like mastercard A bank transfer costs 25$ if your eurobank is willing I got clobbered once with Western Union and now ebay warns against paying with western union So I only buy in the Eurozone however tempting those proof buffalos are ( paying trouble, customs trouble , sellers trouble etc )

What you need is a "stupid" filter that consists of a standardised test. Any international eBayer can bid, as long as they have passed the "Stupidity" test. If they fail - no bidding! Sounds reasonable to me!

Maybe
But I think future parents should have a "stupidity test" If they don't pass...one of em gets fixed.

Not to hijack this thread, but Ageka, do you have pictures of those crucifixes? 100 years old sounds very cool.

Postage to france was 26 euro and to US was 35 dollars I offered them twice on ebay no belgian takers and postage too much but it was 2 pounds ( 1 kilo ) and I was ready to sell them for copper price as scrap when somebody on another forum hollered please NO So last week I gave the small one away for free and even paid the postage as goodwill gesture to an american who is willing to do me a favour for the big one which is 24 by 12 inches They were both stamped by the designer ANCO( a french artisan shop ) I got two boxes full of 100 year old stuff after my mother died 6 months ago but I am first going to buy a digital camera myself since for this pic my brother begged his neighbour for help

When I was selling on Evil-bay I included a clause on all my auctions that stated "no bidders outside the united states without prior approval" This allow me to filter who I was selling to and make arrangements for payment BERORE they bid. Any unaproved bids were canceled as soon as I saw them.
something like this would allow you to accept forum members and at the same time cancel anyone you don't feel comfortable with. Ziggy
