I wanted to share this experience with those of you who sell on ebay to show that, no matter what you do, there is always a risk of receiving a negative. It doesn't matter how honest or clear you are in your descriptions because MANY people never read the auction. Here is what happened to us. Here is the complete description - the first paragraph in the auction and this shows the exact fonts, colors, and sizes used: This is a nice collection of 4 Netherlands-Curacao coins. All of these coins have the palm tree mark. The first two are 1942P one cent coins. I believe the first to be in Extremely Fine EF40 and the second to be in About Uncirculated AU50 condition. The next two are silver 1941P 25 cents coins. I believe both of these to be in EF40 condition. Please look at the pictures below and read our payment and shipping terms prior to bidding. While we only accept Paypal from US buyers with confirmed addresses, we now accept Bidpay from International buyers which enable International buyers to pay via Visa or Mastercard. The winner of this auction (from the Netherlands) then proceeded to tell me that he could only pay by Paypal. We went back and forth on this about 6 times via email with him insisting that there was no other way he could pay. I filed an NPB on him and he responded once in the dispute to say he didn't understand English and complaining that I filed the NPB so soon (it was one week after the auction and I knew he wasn't going to pay because he told me so.) We received a negative feedback from him last night that loosely translates on alta vista into: very rudely a mockery very bad ebayer. The orginal Dutch text is: zeer onbeschoft een aanfluiting zeer slechte ebayerThe lesson to be learned here is that whether you're a buyer or seller, you need to recognize that negative feedback is not always deserved. For those who want to take a look at the auction, here is the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...260121694647Please understand that I love and respect our International members, but we have had many dealings like this that have not necessarily resulted in a negative feedback. It makes me want to only deal with our International neighbors on this forum and not allow International bidding on our ebay auctions. Sorry for the long post, but I thought maybe others could get a lesson out of this also.

That is a tough one. I thing you can respond to the feedback explaining that he refused to pay.

Susan, your unfortunate experience just demonstrates one more time that there are semi-literate fools and idiots in all nations. His feedback shows that you're not the first to suffer from his ignorance and incompetence. Hopefully, he has not reproduced himself, but don't bet on it.
I would be curious if any of our Nederlands members know of this guy.

Sorry to hear that. Good thing it didn't drop you down a percentage point. And very good thing no one can read it. That's one of the reasons that I don't want to mess with international....I don't know enough or what I am doing.

Thanks for sharing that lesson. You & Bobby responded to his negative feedback very well without sounding retaliatory and professional.
So I guess there were two lessons here One about customers and the other for keeping a professional manner in tough times.

I am sorry to say that apart from a few exceptions this is a typical Dutch attitude ( I had a dutch friend and Carl Tromp was extremely nice to me ) You refused paypal which he considers as his godgiven right when he pays ; but he adds a lot of money when he receives by paypal His flemish sorry I mean dutch comments make a lot of sense to the casual observer ( If you pay by paypal it costs you extra which is legal here ) I never bought on ebay holland because I fear their attitude

We're trying to work with this guy to get the feedback mutually withdrawn, but this is one of the reasons that ebay's feedback system doesn't work very well. If a buyer does not pay, then they shouldn't be able to leave feedback since they didn't fulfill their part of the bargain.

And all over $17. What a fool. I'll be honest, I don't ALWAYS read every word in an auction. But I sure as heck read which payment is accepted, their raiting, location, and shipping charges. If I don't read something right I always do what I have to to complete the sale. ALWAYS! Ty

I think eBay/Paypal should take their share of the blame for things like this. Your auction body is clear enough that Paypal is only acceptable from US buyers, but the payment methods section down the bottom just says "Paypal: Seller preferred". It's also the only part that's translated into Dutch when your auction is viewed on ebay Netherlands. Someone who either can't read English at all or believes that the part in his/her native language is clear and unambiguous enough to not have to hassle about translation, will think you accept Paypal, no worries. If eBay/Paypal allows you to only accept Paypal under certain circumstances, then it's up to EBay/Paypal to clearly state when people have selected this option in the section of the auction listing that's automatically generated by ebay - and translated for the foreign language ebay sites. Of course, the simplest thing would be for Paypal to simply stop treating most of the planet as second-class users and extend their seller protection to everyone.

Bobby and Susan's listing are always flawless. They never leave anything to question, and their photos are of such quality that there are no surprises after you receive coins in hand. Their regular customers know this and continue to do business with them because of this. My .02 worth.

Susan, I buy and sell auto parts on ebay for living like you do coins. I have problems all the time with International buyers overseas all the time. Complaints about shipping prices since they are high since we don't have surface anymore. Or those guys trying to pay me like 7 bucks on shipping for USA buyers when it cost 20 bucks to send it. The other problems I have is lots of the those guys want me to lie on us customs forms where they don't pay the import taxes. There email half of it don't make any since they don't speak English. I guess they cant read English or is it the machine translation that's all messed up. I learned that long time ago. No mater what you do there are going be people who will leave bad feedback no mater what you do. Its part of selling on ebay these days. Sorry Chevrolet454ss

Susanlynn9, I do a lot of business on ebay (mostly buying) and check feedback before any purchase. If I see a negative I review the transaction from both sides including a review the buyers feedback. If I see any derrogatory or retaliatory comments from the seller I move on. If I see a professional and courteous demeanor from the seller no matter what the idiot buyer did, I bookmark that seller as a favorite. I haven't run across your auctions yet, but when I do, you're gonna get bookmarked.

For 4.23$ the seller says very bad payer and nothing but whining and he gets the answer ebay has reprimanded him watch out a criminal For another 2$ same bad payer and whiner reply this crook has my money and does not sent the item I guess this is typical courtesy between two Dutch ebayers unfortunately you cannot block selling by country to I shudder because I got several dozen antiques to sell and because of postage costs I have to choose whether I sell outside Belgium I think I am only going to sell inside Belgium I said on another forum I was going to scrap two 100 year old crucifixes and I got a very good exchange proposition Since import taxes are 25% and since gifts to a friend are free of taxes up to 45 euro postage included European buyers often want a gift My friend used to sent a lot of carparts cause customs are not intrested in carparts and after all toll exchange money is part of a car
