Hi,

I recently discovered in the back of my CP (Cherrypicker's) guide an appendix summarizing the most popular proof and mint sets.

As rupester previously alluded to the 5th edition, volume II of CP Guide has a 1959 FS-25-1959-901 variety Washington quarter, for example, found in mint sets.

What is rare about this particular 1959 25 cents variety is the fact that the mint inadvertently used a Type B hub to create a reverse die originally intended for all Philadelphia 'proof' dies stamped from 1937 to 1942 and from 1950 to 1964.

Using the attached photos as a guide on what to look for, all interested viewers might consider checking the quarter of any mint set struck in 'Philadelphia only' between 1956 - 1964 (nine possibilities) since CP has the variety prices for these years ranging from a low of $ 25 for an AU-50 1956 Type B quarter up to a high of $ 250 for a MS-65 1963 Type B quarter.

In summary I do not want to deviate too much from the main theme of this thread but for any interested viewer the circulation strike(MS - mint state) Type B Washington quarter prices and related Coneca numbers for 1956 - 1964 are conveniently summarized on pages 201 - 202 of the CP Guide, 5th Edition, Volume II by Bill Fivaz and J.T. Stanton.

happy hunting,
mdpmedia

I have been chasing bu 1956-1964 type b quarters in mint sets I stumbled onto these while searching for 1960 d pennies and thats where I found my first 1960 p mint set type b reverse they are not rare 59-60. I personally think collections in collections are awesome. Like rpm coins. Or DDO DDR fun to find. And collect.
