I picked this up months ago and figured I'd try and take pictures of it tonight. It came out of a New England attic and was sold on ebay by the guy that found it. I love the colors. Chance

I'm at VF30. The reverse wear on the eagle feathers and arrow feathers brings it down. The obverse looks VF35 though.

I see this coin as a 40...and I'll tell you why I think that. I have a few Seated quarters and the early ones have a tendency to be unevenly, and frequently not fully struck. Look at the separation between the rim and the denticles. It's nearly complete on one side ... and a bit weaker on the other side. I think it's weakly struck. I have a 45 that has flats on the arm and hand that have sharp angular edges, but that coin's a bit higher grade than this one. It was (I am guessing) struck with insufficient pressure for the metal to completely fill the dies. Something that lends credence to my theory ... is that 3 times they lowered the relief of the Seated coinage. I theorize that it was because of striking difficulties. Just my opinion. As for the coin's color ... remember, this spent Lord knows how many decades in extremes of temperature in an attic. Blazing hot and probably humid conditions in the summer, and colder than a well diggers butt in the winters. Chance

Quote: It may just be that its fallen victim to a crappy photographer. Sorry, I was not the photographer so I am not sure you can use that excuse. I think the subsequent pictures are better, I am not good at grading these so I will not interject on that front but I will say it is a nice one.

What's exasperating for me ... is that I know what adjustments need to be made to my camera, and it supposedly has the capability ... but apparently I don't. I was looking in the manual again today ... so maybe I can get the aperture where I want it, but I don't have enough background in photography to comprehend the directions on aperture setting (clear as mud) ... well, I didn't ... I think I "get it" now ... but until I get proper lighting, I think I need to stick to shooting in natural light.
That said ... even the daylight shots still make the coin appear "softer" than it appears in hand. That's what conveys the feeling of a cleaned coin.

You do much better than I do. I am lucky if my coins do not look like flat pieces of solder when I try to take pictures.

Apparently, coins that spend a hundred years or so in an attic look exactly like a cleaned and AT coin. Very nice looking coin, I actually like the color, but unless you found the coin in the attic yourself, I'm not sure I would believe the story. Not saying it's not true, but there is really no way to verify it. Either way, it is very nice!
