I admit I am as big a newbie when it comes to notes as you'll ever see so I'm looking forward to learning loads within this forum. I was given this note and find them fascinating and am hoping you can help me with grading. Thanks in advance!

http://www.oldcurrencyvalues.com/Gr...urrency.html Looks EF-40 to me. When you crop the pic leave a bit more around the edges so we can see if there are any folds or missing corners.

Thanks John! There are no missing corners that much I can tell you. You can see that the lower left corner is creased slightly. You can see the same crease in the upper right corner of the reverse picture.

On a good day they will call that a 40. However, a couple of those are very hard folds, so you might get burned with a 35.

VF-35 due to folds and the discoloration around them. Still a nice note.

I'd guess you'd get a XF40. I've seen plenty of similar notes get just that grade. It's a tough call because its a bit of a tweener because of the discoloration around the folds and general lack of eye-appeal, especially on the reverse side of the note. Because of this, a VF35 grade wouldn't be ridiculous. But the golden rule of 3 folds is XF exists for a reason and there isn't anything so egregious about this note to knock it to a VF35, IMO. Fortunately, due to the current valuation of these notes, there isn't much of a difference in value between these 2 grades.
