found this. it looks like PMD. there is a ring of somehting with reeding or simlar around the coin. The wierd thing is the picture of the two blebs at the base of jeffersons bust. they appear to be copper. I am just wondering if someone smashed this with somehting with reeded edges and then dropped some molten metal on it. back of coin does not show any damage or wierdness in my opinion. any thoughts would be appreciated. I am leaning towards wierd combo of PMD. Thanks in advance.

Looks like somebody tried to electrocute Jefferson. I say heat damage of some sort, possibly from a welder?

Its unfortunate, but I don't think this happened at the mint. While the ring around is a good indicator it may have happened at the mint, the extra nodes under his bust represent it may have been a part of a failed attempt at welding for jewelry.
Rest in Peace

I will throw it back. I originally thought so, but hoped I was wrong. Thanks for opinions.

It was different and you eye caught it. That is what is important. Many more benefit from your post. I feel xodus had the correct answer. As well as others who said PMD.
