Message Preview - Did I do something wrong Here ?, New seller
Hi,

I am new to selling coins on ebay. My grandfather passed away in 1999 and my grandmother gave me his 1990 no s proof set after he had after he died. I kept it all those years intill recently. Since he passed away I never could find where he bought it or where it came from. My grandmother could never find any paperwork on it.

I tried to sell it in 2007. I did not send to an coin dealer to take it to I sent an trading ebay company that's sell anything but don't do coins. I did it since my camara was not set up micro stuff since I sell auto parts not coins. Its http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...ME:B:LC:US:1

That's first auction on that proof set. We removed the auction since ebay or an person said it was an fake and coin was switched out . I don't know in tire story but we ended auction since we thought it was fake. After that I never took to an dealer or sent off get checked. I Checked it to my 1991 proof set and penny looked dull compared to my 1991 proof set I had.

Serval months ago by before I re list it using my auto parts company to sell parts on ebay. Here is link to second auction. I disclose the problems with it and sell as is no returns as stated in auction. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...gory0=&fvi=1 Its listed as ? mark or problem set as stated in auction. Reason I sold it as is no returns since I felt I disclosed the problems with it.

It sat all week long on ebay with bids up at less than 200 bucks. In last few minutes of auction they bid it so high. I get my money next day on pay-pal and ship it fast. I even try to give him free shipping since he paid over 2000 on set but he pays anyway on shipping.

The buyer gets his set and does an pay-pal charge-back without calling me first or anything. He is telling I am crook and wants me in jail for selling him an fake proof set. I stated in auction it is an problem or ? set. I cant talk with guy since he calling me a crook .

I end dispute with him. I turn it over to pay pal. Pay-pal demanded he provide an police report in 14 or 10 days and he never did . Pay pal stopped his charge-back and got my money back from pay pal.

In auction I said no returns. I did try call feds and talk to them since I felt I did nothing wrong. I even told buyer if you want I will turn my self into feds if you want. He was trying me throw in jail. Feds never called me back those guys who deal with counterfeit money.

At one time I even told the guy I would buy the set back or he can send back I can sell it again for you and then refund your money since I already spent it buying coins on ebay or auto parts after auction. I never heard back from that man and he Left bad feedback on me.

I am to point I need to start selling my extra coins on ebay again . I afraid to and I may need send to another dealer to deal with coin guys besides my auto parts company. The people who bought my penny book was happy with it besides that proof set nightmare. That man reminds of person buying car that was wrecked and you see the see damage . Buy car from auction and find it cost more than thought to fix it. Try to take it back to auction company even after auction sells it as is no warranty wrecked car. That's what law says in Texas on selling used cars or salvage cars. If people don't want car they rerun the car at auction to next buyer at the new owners ex pen not the auction company. They don't take back to seller and do what he tried to do. Is this all time with coin people?

He was second buyer of coins and I want do stuff correct and not get into problems like I had. Selling cars is different compared to coins I am learning.

Doesn't sound like you did anything wrong in your listing. I've sold many coins on ebay and only had a problem with one guy that would not pay nor answer my emails. He filed a claim against me with ebay and gave me negative feedback.

Only suggestions I would have is to set up a different account name to keep it separate from your car parts business. You may also want to note in your listings that coins are from an estate and are sold where is - as is with no warranties implied.

Some times you just almost have to be a lawyer.

Good luck!

This is a tough situation. You definitely did what you could to describe the set, but I don't agree with not offering a return policy. For what it's worth, I think he was probably going to try to pull a fast one on you anyway. There are people out there who, if they feel they can get away with it, will try to keep what they purchased and get their money refunded through Paypal. Since Paypal has so many "fine print" rules that a seller has to follow to be protected, this works quite often. I don't doubt that he didn't read the auction, either. Couple that with the fact that he was willing to spend $2000+ on an item that was questionable and that he obviously didn't have any knowledge about. I can see in the pics that the cent in the set has cartwheel luster. A proof coin doesn't have that; it has mirrored fields and there is no cartwheel.

In my opinion, it would have been better for you to have gone to a dealer or checked out the set with a knowledgeable person prior to selling it. When doubt is expressed in an auction, you will tend to attract the people who think they're going to get something for nothing and be nothing but a problem. I reiterate that it is never a good idea to not offer a return policy.

Unfortunately, at this point, you may have difficulty getting decent money for your coins because of your feedback rating. I would suggest selling your items here on CC after you have 50 posts, or you can contact me if you are interested in selling them on consignment on ebay. I would just hate to see you list them on ebay and lose money.

Hope this helps.
