I have no idea what is going on with this cent. It almost looks like a trail die but none are listed that match. It almost looks like a die clash, but nothing matches up. Also of note, IN GOD WE TRUST is very weakly struck and is almost indiscernible. The reverse is normal. I would sure appreciate any and all opinions on this, thanks!

It looks like it may have been struck through a die cap that was deteriorating.

Here is one that was also turning after a few strikes.

That would explain on your coin you have some areas with what appears as ripples at the edge of the devices. But not sure of this theory. Mike Diamond would be able to nail it down more. Did you clean it for the obverse complete image? It helped to see what was going on with it.

How would someone be able to get in touch with Mike Diamond to forward him a picture of an error?

I was going to say it kinda looks like a Die Cap...I saw the strong reverse strike and the soft mushy looking obverse strike....Guess I was kinda right. Cool Coin

Struck through late-stage die cap.

It's a cool coin roll hunting find, if that's how you found it.

Mike Diamond checks in here from time to time. We always love his comments. They round out our error coins with the correct description.

It looks just like the 1980 I posted a couple of weeks ago. I agree with Coop & Errorcoins222. Struck through very late stage die cap. Check out this link. The coin on the bottom right is a dead match. That's how I figured out what mine was.

Link to the 1980 I posted for comparison.

Thanks Jay. The sad part is that I saved that image and didn't see it in my host. But there it is:
