Well I'm highly doubtful of this but its possible that a Morgan dollar could get mixed in with the Trade dollars and get chopmarked seeing as they were struck in the same years weren't they? But DONT take my word for it.

The Mint didn't send them as Trade coins but nothing stopped a private party from doing so.

I don't know what that one went for. As a rule, I'd give it a little extra interest value for the chops, but nothing earthshaking. 10% maybe?

That's very interesting, a chopped Morgan over Asia, and is CC Minted, that's makes it even more scarce. This is a very interesting subject, I'd like to know what other US coins gets chopped over Asia, with pictures if available.

One reason chopmarks would be rare on Morgans would be that by the time the Morgans were in production silver had and was continuing to drop. Trade dollars were by that time being exported from China back to the US because they were worth more as coins in the US than they were as bullion in Asia. A Morgan dollar would be even worse. Why send a coin worth $1 in the US all the way to China where it would be worth $.75 or less? There are chopmarks known on capped bust and Seated halves as well but they are also rare.

Thanks for the links SuperDave! I agree Condor why would they shipped a Morgan to the Orient that's worth 3/4 of the Trade dollar, probably a mix up? But what's intriguing is the fact at those time, people have devices that can detect the amount of silver in the coins?
