Help Required Identifying These 2 Items From The Far East

Both are cupro-nickel. Coin 1 - weight = 32.3 grams - diameter = 40.5 mm Coin 2 - weight = 31.5 grams - diameter = 40 mm Are they known as "fantasy coins"? Thanks for any help. The second one is definitely a fantasy piece. Produced for the tourist trade depicting a Chinese Emperor but I can't identify it (but not from the Qing dynasty). Report this Post to the Staff
Sap Moderator Australia 16845 Posts	Posted 12/19/2013 7:33 pm We've seen the Yunnan fantasy dollar before; here's an old thread with one. We've seen the other fantasy coin before too; it's a copy of a rare contemporary fantasy issued during the brief reign of Yuan Shikai as emperor in 1916. You can see a "genuine fantasy" as well as several more modern imitations in this thread. The thing I find curious is the weight. These fantasy dollars usually weigh around 20 grams, much less than a genuine silver dollar would weigh (about 27 grams). 31 grams is actually way too heavy for a genuine dollar. Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis Report this Post to the Staff
