Again, it looks like it could be a good deal on ebay, and since it was suggested I put something up here BEFORE I buy it, I thought I would. Here are the images: Image: libertyseated25_1877s.jpg32.2 KB Image: libertyseated25_1877s_rev.jpg33.04 KB Has this been cleaned? I don't see any streaks in it... what would you grade it at? Thanks!

I see a lot of detail, but I would not bid on this one. I get suspicious when the color of the coin is off. It makes me wonder if the image is doctored. I'm barely computer literate, but there are people here that can blow up the image & will be able to give you an idea if it has been cleaned.

I can't tell from these pictures. If it was from the same person you bough from before then don't bid. This is a thread about trusted sellers on ebay that we have personally dealt with. Another good thing to do with a seller is look at All of their auctions and All feedback. If they seem to have a few dishonest items that are blatantly cleaned or misrepresented then it's not worth the trouble to take risk. https://goccf.com/t/2393

Pictures make me suspicious too, I would need to know more about the seller (returns?) before even thinking about bidding on this coin.

Actually, the three other coins were from two different sellers. I guess what catches me is I look for "great" deals --- but they are just luring in the patsy --- me.
This coin is from a different seller.

If the coin is white, and not a no-brainer, lusterous UNC, start being suspicious. That's not to say there's not nice white AU coins out there. White 19th century coins are an automatic flag no matter what the grade.

You're heading in the right direction Allen. Post here before you buy. However, I will also mention that you really need to do some due diligence and grab some literature and start learning more about the hobby. While ebay is a great place to find some coins, you will find numerous sellers that prey on folks such as yourself. Buy some books, hang around here and read and learn. You will enjoy this community and the info here.

I believe, from the photos, that the coin's color appears flat as though it's been dipped so much that it's lost any remnant of mint luster. I would steer clear of this one unless you can buy it for melt.

The halo around the stars and the slightly different appearance in and around the lettering could be signs of cleaning ,, but just when that cleaning could/would have occured cannot be told from a picture,,
The coin appears to have AU details ,,whether I would bid or not would be dependant on the Sellers return policy, feedback rating and how bad I wanted or needed the coin .

Allenciox,
This coin has been cleaned and would be body-bagged by the top two TPGs. ANACs would probably give it an AU-details, net EF. Do not pay for more than EF. I cannot tell you how to grade these yourself, you just need to look at thousands of examples (like I have) to know that this one doesn't look kosher from the get go!
