I was wondering if PCGS lists artificial toning as a "details" grade?

Not sure if they do but I have seen a few coins with obvious AT in pcgs problem free slabs.

They do, theyll always list things that have "questionable color" as details. That one annoys me as they sit on the fence with it. Man up and call it AT or let it through.

I actually prefer the appellation "Questionable Color." Heaven knows we all argue amongst ourselves about what is and isn't "Artificial Toning" often enough. PCGS is stating the obvious - there's reason to believe the coin didn't acquire its' color via natural means, while admitting that it's a very grey area.

I'd be hating on them if they called it "Artificial Toning" when I thought it wasn't. Poor guys can't win. We bash them either way.

Theres a lot of coins that should probably be in one of those slabs if the grey area is the new standard for that.

Whats next getting back a coin graded "VF 30?" or a label with just a picture of someone doing this ?

Im actually less opposed to it than I thought Id be thinking about it now. But I do want to see a big change for it before I will stop hating it. For uncertainty labeling like that Id like to see them give a full grade for the coin instead of the vf details or unc details. Just dont give it a details grade then use the questionable color to say well maybe were wrong about this.

Yes, even if it's only placed in a "Genuine" slab the coin number will have code ".91" appended for questionable color.
