I was in my LCS today and I found a Spain 1 peseta in a world coins box, and I got it (with many other foreign coins) for 20 cents.

I wasn't sure about the value of this 1 peseta coin (not too experienced with foreign coins) so I looked it up on Coinquest, and came across this page: http://coinquest.com/cgi-bin/cq/coi...nd_id=548880

If you visit that link, you'll see some "special dates" listed near the bottom of the page. One of the special dates is the 1947 1 peseta issued in 1951, and it claims its value is $300. Well, that's the exact coin I have.

I did some further research, though, and I found a few of these 1947's (issued in '51) selling on ebay for much, much less than $300.

So yeah..I really need help figuring out what this coin is worth. Keep in mind my coin is not the E51 version they talk about in the link above. Feel free to ask any questions.

Thanks guys!

umm those prices seem ludicrous, I myself own the 1963 issued in 1967 and paid $5 for it. I'f suggest you disregard these values. As for the real value, I can't say.

Are the coins you're seeing in MS (uncirculated) condition. On the link it says uncirculated is $300.00, but almost uncirculated is around $75.00 (divide these prices by 4(worn will be way less)).

Take a picture of the coin you saw and we can grade it.

I can't post any pictures until tomorrow, but I would say my coin is in F or VF condition.

How much would it be worth if that was the case?

Thanks again!

So you have the 1947 type with a 51 in the star as opposed to the E 51 which is quite rare. That is a very common coin in lower grades.

The condition is the critical factor as noted above. Fine (using European standards) for that date has a full retail of $2 so you might pay a retail of $1 in the US maximum and if you try to sell it expect 2-5 cents tops.
