looking to add a gold coin to my collection @ near spot.

grade not really an issue, just looking to have one gold in my "One From Each Country" collection. other countries would be easy, but if I'm only going to have one I would like it to be Canada.

are they out there?

They'll be hard to find unless you can score a lowball $5 gold (VG) for spot. I know that scratched up or problem gold maple leafs go for spot or slightly under. Another thing is that the proof $20 golds issued as part of the commemorative sets in 1967 are sold near spot by some local dealers here. Good luck!

The $100 1970s onward series would be your best bet. A heavily circulated $5 1913 might also fit, but it may be a loooong time before you find one. And it will probably still go for a higher premium than a modern $100 gold.

I have a number of different $100 golds listed on ebay if you'd like to check them out at the link below :)

If you're not worried about circulation vs NCLT then the gold 25c face value 0.5g coins are the cheapest in absolute terms. Don't know if you'll get them anywhere near spot though.
