I didn't want to hijack Nickelsearcher's thread, so I thought I'd start my own here with my set. I've been working on this one for about 5 years now and I'm down to 5 more coins that I need.
The bulk of my set is raw and housed in Wayte Raymond boards. Some have been cleaned, but are the best I could find for the time being. Some are in slabs, and I'll probably keep them there until the set is complete. I'll figure out then if I want them all slabbed or if I'll crack out the slabs and put them in the WR album.
Unlike Nickelsercher, I'm pretty much looking for XF-AU coins, with a nice circulated gray toning. I have a few in the F-VF range, and even have one that is MS-63, but it has a toning that matches the rest of the set.
Anyway, here goes:

Another-Set-Of-Circulated-Commems

You'll see some coins have a brownish tint to them (like the Pan Pac above). These are in slabs and I just photoshopped them into the WR pages. The colors match the other coins in real life, but for some reason, the slabbed photos had that brownish tint.

The Vermont here is another that is slabbed. The Maryland is an AU-ish coin, but I recently upgraded it with a VF35 that's slabbed, and I just havent done a photo yet. The Arkansas has a little too much luster for my liking, but will do for now.

Another-Set-Of-Circulated-Commems

The York has been polished. I also recently got a slabbed upgrade for it, but havent done a photo yet.

Another-Set-Of-Circulated-Commems

the Bridgeport and Bay Bridge are both slabbed here. The Lynchburg is one of my favorites, but it has a chop extending from the rim at about 4 o'clock. A real shame, but I love the look of this coin. The Elgin is another one that has a little too much luster for my liking, but it will do for now.

Another-Set-Of-Circulated-Commems

The Gettysburg and Antietam here are in slabs. The Gettysburg is a genuine - cleaned example. The Antietam is actually an NGC MS63. The look matches my set so well, though, that you'd never know. The Norfolk is obviously another one that has been polished, but is the only AU example I've been able to find.

There you have it! All you lowballer's out there, keep me in mind if you have any higher grade circ coins that you are able to "upgrade" with more worn examples.

Very nice set. Got a Columbian, Booker.T.Washington and Iowa half a few months back so maybe once I'm done my Canadian Dollars and US Dollars set; I'll start a class commemoratives set. I'm guessing the Norfolk Half is the MS63? I know that the Hawaiian is an especially expensive and hard coin. Anyways good luck finishing this set.

Thanks guys!

zxcccxz - the Norfolk is unfortunately a polished coin. Its probably in the AU50 range and my guess is it probably had a patina on it that would've matched this set nicely before it was cleaned. The Antietam is actually the MS63 coin.

AMEN! A great set which I like in circulated.
If you do open the slabs, save the labels and put them into the album.
SO close, so do not stop now.

again XF40 ... tremendous coins ... thrilled that you have shared the photos with us.

I truly enjoy the photos of your coins and commentary on your 'favorites' ... fully agree with your views and I enjoy all of them.

You have some tremendous examples of this very difficult set ... very well done so far and thrilled to have you in from the cold as a kindred collector of this series.

That said ... based on my experience ... the personal decision to certify your coins will likely result in a few coins being judged 'non-gradable'.

That is a call only you can make ... I did so a few years ago and never looked back.

Humbly suggest until you make a decision on certification ... avoid my mistake of cracking them out for my Dansco ... only to pay the cost of re-certifying.

There are some true commemorative experts hanging out here at the CCF ... and as well most of the known fans of circulated classic silver commemorative.

You should soon hear from HONDO ... his growing set can be seen here ..

https://goccf.com/t/136495

You will also hear from Not-Mint-to-Be ... the all-time finest collector of circulated commemorative ...

You can check out a lot of photos a the PCGS Registry low-ball site. The top 4 sets to date are there ...

The small world of us chasing this set (less than 10 by my count)is a special community ... as such I fully commit to supporting the other fans and helping them any way I can.

Somewhat surprised to find you here based on that ebay message ... however ... thrilled to have you with us ... hopeful Eric that you can keep us updated on your progress and allow us to support your collecting goals.

Your Missouri, Grant, Vancouver, Wisconsin & Bridgeport definitely have your look. Congrats on a nice looking set. Several years ago Don Soles worked on a mid grade set like yours.

David - right now I'm leaning towards keeping them raw, but I'm keeping the slabs as-is until (if) the set is ever finished. I'll decide then.

Not Mint to Be - the Boone is a 37P.

I've had the same dilemma. My coins are in a dansco album 7095.
There have been coins I have bought slabbed and I've broken them all of.

With some it was harder than others, but it works for me. I can say though, if I ever find something really special in a slab, it could stay in there a while!
