Ok - I am at a complete loss. Obverse of coin has an oval shaped area that is concave where some of the planchet seems to have been missing. It appears that a portion of the image from the reverse was struck on this. The red arrow I have is pointing to what maybe appears to be the top half of an "O"?

Ok - now if that isn't weird enough - the reverse of the coin has a chunk missing that would make me think PMD, however, the memorial building is present like it was struck. Weird.

Also - looked at this further - the thickness of the coin changes as you rotate the coin through your fingers when looked at from the side. So either it was bent/damaged, went through some trauma during minting, or the planchet was defective in the first place.

Any thoughts? Thanks

Merry Christmas to all.

In my opinion it is PMD. Look at the bottom of the Lincoln Memorial Building on the reverse. If you look along the very bottom of it you can see where it flares down at the damage. If this happened right when it was struck the base of the building would be straight the whole way across.

Thanks rob. I hear that.

What about the memorial showing up in the gouged area? I am not yet convinced either way. Slow traffic expected on here today

I would certainly wait for Mike's input but it looks like some kind of PMD involving another coin.

It is deliberate PMD.
