I purchased 7 of these in Canada for 10 cents each, from a bucket labeled "Old U.S. Nickels". Heh heh heh.

War Nickels have appreciated the most of the silver coins. At .350 fineness (if you can call that fine) it's not worth keeping and doesn't have much value. I think they are best to sell for profit, IMO.

My name is Sumpter. A coin roll hunter. It's silver coins I seek. From bank to bank I roam, And then I hurry home To search. Yep, I'm a geek!
A nickel, dime or quarter A 'find' makes my mouth water! I pull it for my stack. But then I must go back. You see, it's plain as day: Beats goin' on the 'Bay!
So ramble on, you Doubting Toms. Just keep it up with bombs. I do not need your praise. I search and search away Until the break of day. (And no, it's not a phase.)
With apologies to Dr. Seuss

My only warnix are 1942S, 1943P, 1944P and 1945P. The latter (with a 1942D dime) was one of the first foreign coins I ever got - it was in a tobacco tin of various foreign coins that my parents gave me when I started collecting. As they had never visited the USA at the time, I suspect they got them in change in Panama when they stopped there on a ship traveling back from New Zealand in about 1952. I really only contributed to this topic so that Aslan could see a photo of Felix, who guards my War Nickels (and all my coin collection). Warning: he's big and mean, and those teeth and claws are very sharp! In this photo he's checking the values of silver and gold bullion in the business news...

Nice one, err, TWO rupester Looks like Felix is in the same boat as Aslan, big and mean and nasty teeth and claws but a can of tuna and a chin scritch and the purrs won't stop Good theory on the Panama trip but I'd almost have to wonder if that coin made it over the pond in some G.I.s pocket on a "Victory Ship". Either way it's still a nice thing to have Edit: forgot to say thanks matthewvincent for the poem and the images I'm sure Ted Geisel is happy with it. Also the only thing that Aslan guards is the NIP... he's a total fiend for it
