Found this one in a roll the other day and was wondering if some wise guy overpolished it or if it was struck through something on the obverse.

The reeding on the rim appears undamaged for 25%-40% of the edge but then appears to have been milled down.

There is also a lip formed by the obverse where the reeding appears to be milled down.

This one is weird. Maybe a struck through capped die with damage from a coin counter?

My guess is PMD via a belt sander

I would have said blow-torch, seems too smooth unless you were using a very fine grit, but yeah I'm seeing PMD

It's a shame because the reverse seems rather nice. Couldn't our belt sandmaster have picked an already damaged coin or something like that?

Reverse is too nice for a blow torch to have been used. Cool coin but I can kinda see scratches from something and then it looks to have been polished.
