Hello all. Real name's Dave and I live in Washington state near Tacoma.

I found what even to a nOOb like me seemed to be a unique and interesting nickel. I was hoping the experts here could shed some light on it.

Nickel.

Motto on obverse semi-obscured. Date and motto "LIBERTY" totally obscured with up to and including triangle shaped punches.

Deep fin on obverse, also not normal reverse, no real rim at all, rounded.

Reverse side the word "CENTS" is gone, the field is wavy there.

Please see attached photos. Thank you all!

Dave

With the detail on the building and the faded lettering on five cents, I'd like to see better images before I dismissed it as PMD. Basically that poor little nickel has not had a good live.

EDIT: caps and spelling (I'm a nit-picker)

Here's a couple more. Interesting, with flash and zoomed in Photoshop I can now see a faint 1995 or 1993.

Looks like a Dryer Coin to me. The folded rim comes from the head and being rolled around. Eventually, if left in the dryer long enough, you will see them get smaller and smaller, until they melt away.

If you do a search for Dryer Coin on the forum you'll see a lot of examples that look like yours.

So you're saying I maybe shouldn't have put all my life savings as a down payment on that Tuscan villa, in expectation of a multi-million dollar rare coin auction sale? darn...another illusion shattered!

Thanks all!

Who knows, weird things sell on ebay . Coins that should sell for $100's, don't get a bid; coins that are worth face value sell for $100's. Lack of knowledge is a problem in the world today
