Looking on Ken Polsons Type Collecting site, he shows the 2006 dual date (1996-2006) twoonie as a ciculation issue. I thought it was a non-circulation coin. Help! Circulation issue or not?

Yes but no, they are regular strikes but not put in to circulation. The term for this is nbu or numismatic brilliant uncirculated. They are normal strike coins but made for collectors.

So, should not be part of an issued for circulation type set. Right?

How many other coins in this type would exist that I would have to add? That is, coins that are different from prior / post years in some feature other than date? I already did include one quarter that I think falls into this category, the 1992 Confederation quarter (seemed silly to have all of the provinces but not this one)

That's the one. So it does circulate relatively freely. Guess I am adding it to my type set.

I believe that one is also referred to as the "Churchill" toonie. While it's not common, it's definitely possible to find them circulating.

I didn't even know that wasn't a regular issue- I got one of those in my change when I was in Montreal this fall!

I had one of those in change when I visited Canada in 2007. It's still in my collection.

In the one which is found in circulation the bear has a pixie ear. In the set version the same coin does not have a pixie ear and is also called normal ear. There were 5 million of the pixie one minted for circulation and about 300000 sets that contained normal ear. In addition to that there is a normal bear with a double date as well that was issued in sets only.

There was a 1996-2006 that was circulated with a mintage of 5 million. I still find them in change. They have the date on the top. There is also a similar coin except it has the date 1996-2006 on the BOTTOM of the coin. That was made for sets. I have not seen it in change and am looking for one myself. Probably could pick up one from a dealer or on ebay.
