I posted this a long time ago and only was able to scan. Most thought it was VF 25 to XF 40 maybe. I was also told it was a O-121 small dated variety. With the better photos does everyone agree now? I am going to submit this to Anacs next week and was also wondering if the reverse rim hit will make this a details grade. Thanks in advance. There is some luster still around letters and some high points.

It looks XF, however...the surfaces don't quite look natural to me. the rim hit is small, but deep....not sure if ANACS would consider it a problem, or if they'd just lower the grade a bit.

I have no problems seeing the details on this coin as an easy XF. I also worry about the surfaces, though - the "halos" around the stars are a disconcerting bit of evidence that the coin may have been cleaned. Not definitive, but certainly a strong hint. I'll have to leave deciding if that rim gouge is as-struck or a postmint hit to you; it's inconclusive. And yes, that's also a danger of making it a Details coin.

Headed out to the store, so I've only a moment right now for attribution, but I kind of like O-121 for it. I'll revisit this in an hour or so when I return.

I think ANACS will net grade it XF40, the rim thing looks a bit too deep but I agree, easy solid XF details

I also agree with the surfaces not looking natural. EF-40 details.

Looks strong enough for 45. I agree with ssuperddave regarding a possible cleaning. Tough to say what snags will say about the ding. Would like to see the follow up post when you get it back

XF-details, will not slab most likely in my opinion due to a cleaning.

The coin came back from ANACS. A lot of you were right on. I found it interesting they said nothing about the rim ding on the reverse. Originally we had thought VF30-35 so at least we got the grade higher and the coin is very nice looking and not severely cleaned. thanks all.

Nice. Fairly slabbed. Below a certain level of circulation, rim dings can be acceptable consequences of commerce, and get a more liberal evaluation by TPG's. I never even considered it when evaluating this one.
