Anyone that didn't spot that one immediately really needs to go back and study their Redbooks. This is a one quick glance identification for being a fake.

DannyG . . . as has been pointed out, the immediate giveaway was the lack of the word LIBERTY. The next one was the 15 stars on the obverse. There is a 15 star 1799 Dollar but it refers to the # of stars above the eagle on the reverse. Here is my 1799 for comparison.

With only two posts, DannyG cannot possibly know of Steve Caruso.
More disturbing is the willingness of members to offer an opinion without
knowing the subject. I routinely pass on topics to which I cannot speak.
I would not begin to offer an opinion on silver dollars, nor on any coin
made after 1964. Lincolns, Bisons, Jeffersons and Mercs? Cannot comment.
Barber coins? Definitely try to respond as this is my area.
I have learned my limits and strive to stick to them.
Welcome Danny!

I don't think he was talking about DannyG when he mentioned Steve Caruso. I like threads like this though. A little more knowledge.

Raymo,
If a member recommends another member as a specialist, the first member
should include the specialist's CCF name. This way, a new member can
more easily find topics and make his or her own evaluation. Sorry if misleading.
And I agree, the CCF dropped the ball on this one.

Early Dollars aren't my forte so I wanted to wait until others confirmed what my gut reaction was.

Early dollars seem to be heavily counterfeited.

This is an example of how to answer a question:

"I dont have the coins with me right now, but for instance there's a commemorative half dollar that has a price of over $1000. I dont remember any details on what it was and I know there were quite a few other commemorative half dollars that were starting around $30-$40. So should I get some pics and post the coin here first and see what everyone values it at before I send it away to get graded?"

YES! The best place would be here:

I would suggest that you read through commems topics:

Other members may suggest other commemorative 'experts.'

I would highly recommend using Heritage as a learning tool as well. With their extensive database of pictures from coins for sale past and present you can see what real ones should look like.

Matthew, I was just referring to WheatBack's quickly-posted spot-on link to an identical forgery listed on Steve Caruso's website. Guess I didn't make that clear.

Just a reminder: We have a great resource on this website (US Coin Facts, under the US coins and Currency tab in the left navigation panel) that I got this picture from.

Obviously, as already pointed out, the OP's coin is a fake.

A lesson for all of us:
A 'Quick Reply' which is not thought through can be misinterpreted.

It's worth joining PCGS for this one. A silver membership is $50. Going to cost a couple hundred to ship insure and authenticate and grade but no one is going to buy it as is and the price from vf which is way undergrade for this coin $3000 to fe $5500 to au which it could make is$9,000. Rim looks suspicious.

PCGS isn't going to grade it, its fake.

Sorry guys should have caught that . In 2011 bought over $1,000,000 in coins for Goldstar. But since being diagnosed with cancer and taking opiates I should keep my mouth shut. I would actually only test 5 % of the scrap gold I would buy and never got a bad piece back. I'm really good but as I said need to change my habits. My apologies.

Looks like it's related to CF-S$1-1799-0001, as I see some "serration" on the obverse denticles but it's not nearly as pronounced.

But, aye that's as fake as a $3 Federal Reserve Note.
