I broke my personal best record today. My job gives me access to large amounts of coins on a daily basis. As an example, I go through roughly $3500 worth of Quarters in a week. I have found a pretty fair amount of Buffalo nickels, Mercury dimes, FDR silver Dimes and Washington silver Quarters. Oh yeah, tons of Wheat Pennies, as well.

Until today, my personal best was a penny from the early 1890s.

Today I found an 1883 Liberty V nickel! No cents on the reverse. I am stoked!

I would say so! Nice find! Congrats!

Up here in Canada, its not easy to find coins that old because of how their sizes have changed over time, but I did find a 1939 penny once.

I'm the sort of person who picks up coins from the ground, & sometimes they're wheat cents. I've gotten them in change, too, from time to time, but I don't recall ever getting a Buffalo nickel.

Thanks, fellas! Yeah, I'm lucky that my job gives me the opportunity to pick coins from rolls. Since the modern way of rolled coins come in clear shrink wrap, the silver stands out like a sore thumb.

The pennies and nickels are a bit harder for me to find since I rarely break them open and there is no difference in color except for the War Nickels.

I have noticed in the last year or so that the silver coins are becoming scarcer and scarcer as people are hoarding them up.

Speaking of Buffalo nickels, I found these just last week. Unfortunately they've been drilled so I have decided to make them into necklaces and give them to my grand daughters for Christmas.

I know they'll love them as I have given them the coin bug. They're constantly asking me to show them my loot.

My oldest was an 1890 indian head, but it wasn't in great shape. Great find, congrats! That's a beautiful coin!

Myself, a 1912 Lincoln Cent which was a couple of weeks ago. My brother found a 1908-S Indian cent along with about a dozen memorial back Lincoln cents laying in a straight line on the parking lot of the Portugese hall way back in the early 1970's not far from where we lived at the time.

My oldest was a 1904 liberty head nickel I got in change... Wait for it...
AT A COIN SHOP!

it was in such bad condition though I could hardly tell the date. I think he gave it to me on purpose though because that time was my first time in that particular shop.

Wow, that 1883 looks great! I gotta think it hasn't spent 130 years in circulation. Rather, it probably circulated for awhile after it was made, and reintroduced into the wild fairly recently (just a guess).

As far as circulation finds, my record is pretty poor. I think I've found a few nickels from the early 40s. Nothing really noteworthy.

Here in Britain we only switched to decimal coinage in 1971 so that's the oldest coins will get in circulation. It's not unusual to find 1971 coins though. Millions were made at the time.

I envy you Americans that find 100 year old coins still floating around.

I once found a 1940 quarter in AG with deep gouges. George VI's hair had worn down enough so it looked like he had a pompadour/mohawk/?.

My oldest find would be a 1925 LWC while roll hunting.
