If you like the design, then buy the coin at the lower price which ends on the 3rd of Feb.

I think the obverse design (protesters side) is just OK. I don't find it interesting or compelling from an artistic perspective. I would have preferred that the design shown below was the winning choice, but it was not selected by the coin's sponsor (the United Negro College Fund). I do like the presentation and symbolism of the reverse design, however. Overall, I would suggest that it only be bought if you like it and want it as part of your collection. It should not be purchased with the hope that it will increase noticeably in value in the short-term (or, most likely, even in the long-term).

I really like the reverse they selected and the observe shown above.
The problem I have with the obverse selected is not the content, but the rendering. It looks like an early Pixar cartoon.

I have to agree with the comments so far. The Obverse commems posted would have been far better among collectors. I'll end up buying the uncirculated, but will probably not buy the proof. I did read it will be getting the laser treatment and the reverse should look exceptional on the proof.

I agree with all that this one dont jump out with that got to have feeling. I feel its great to commerate, but they could have made a better looking design. imho

No doubt the Liberty Bell obverse was a better choice over the one of the protestors, is much more artisically inspiring, and may have sold more coins. The reverse is very well done. I fear, especially with the initial sales numbers, that this may be another one like the 2013 Girl Scouts in which no surcharge is paid out. The idea of commemorating the Act with a coin was good, the execution wasn't.

I completely agree that the liberty bell would have made for a gorgeous coin that almost certainly would sell faster. With the full year to order I dont think this will fall short to the point of not paying the surcharge again just because of the extended ordering window. If this one falls short as well the mint will have to seriously reconsider the designs theyre picking for the commems which they really should do anyway. Neither 2012 one sold very well.

Based on the debut sells figures this doesn't look overly inspiring. It could be related to the fact it is just after Christmas - during the cold spell - people have hangovers etc...
10,056 Proof and 4,424 Uncir
Compared to the GS coin opening sales...29,331 and 12,293...
Looks like the sells fell off the end of the earth so far.

Quote: Looks like the sales fell off the end of the earth so far. Who knows where things will wind up, but I think we need to give this one a bit more time to make a reasonable prediction. The coin went on sale January 2nd, immediately following the holidays. This was unusual. Typically, the year's commemorative coins go on sale in the February/March time frame which provides more of a "recovery" period after holiday spending. It's probably best to revisit this one in March/April.

I don't have any interest, but then again, it's been a while since I had any interest in any of the silver dollar coins. Like others have said, the reverse is leaps and bounds better than the obverse.

I ordered a Civil Rights proof with some annual uncirculated dollar coin sets and some other goodies from mint awhile ago.
It makes sense to take advantage of the discount while the introductory price is available.
I'll definitely get an uncirculated Civil Rights coin later.
I don't know about bulking up on this one, but the numbers from past related coins are saying its going to have a low mintage, makes sense to get'em at a discount anyway.
I just think of it as free shipping since I added it to other stuff and I was going to order it anyway.

Is the Liberty Bell the reverse design? I thought that it was the one that looked like a flame?

My mistake. I didn't read all of the thread just looked at the pic. I do think that this reverse would have served a much better purpose. The one chosen reminds me of an Olympic coin reverse from a previous year.
