Hi everyone, this is my first time to US Commemoratives forum. I'm from the JFK Roll Hunting forum. I don't know why, but I was moved to pick up the Civil Rights Act silver comm. I got the unc. and it was $49 with tax. 90% silver. here's pics: Comes in a nice felt snap box with box around that, with COA card and then a sleeve around the box. I'm happy with it. This is the first commem I've ever bought. Thanks

I was going to buy an Uncirculated on MLK day but I had just recently bought a proof, so declined. The mintage numbers have really gaped up for these coins recently so we'll see what happens. I'm wondering if the strong buying of last week for these coins will continue since the Mint recently made this year's ATB silver quarter set and the 2014 proof ASE available to buy.

@BernieZ: Thanks for the images! My coin is slated for delivery on Monday. Quote: The mintage numbers have really gaped up for these coins recently so we'll see what happens. The sales have actually leveled off. The Proof version of the coin has sold about 8,500 coins each of the past two weeks (after first week sales of 10,056); the Uncirculated version has sold about 3,300 each week (after first week sales of 4,424).

Thx for the welcome David and everyone!
Where would be the best thread to start for a total Commemorative newbie to begin a new collection from zero?

I second Doug58s. That thread is still one of my all time favorites and I look through it on a regular basis!

I've been tracking the sales of the Civil Rights dollar since it was released and am noticing a trend that does not bode well for the sponsoring organization.
Last year, at the 15-week mark of sales (the first week available on the Mint's web site) the Girl Scouts coins had sold 77,838 proof coins and 28,976 uncirculated coins. So far, after seven week's of sales, the Civil Rights dollar has sold 42,461 proof coins and 17,560 uncirculated.
On the surface, these numbers look "encouraging" as sales of the Civil Rights coin are more than half-way to the GSA coin levels in less than half the sales period. The problem is, sales of the Civil Rights coins have slowed to a crawl. Over the last week, just 1,121 proof and 483 uncirculated coins were sold.
Extrapolate those numbers out to Week 15 and you wind up with sales of 51,500 proof coins and 21,500 uncirculated coins. Those numbers are just 66% and 74%, respectively, of the GSA coins over the same time period.
Obviously, many things can happen that will change the sales volume of the new coins but early returns are not good. The United Negro College Fund better ramp up its efforts to promote sales of the coins if they hope to receive their surcharge check!

commems - I actually think it gets worse if you look at the year. Right now collectors have little to buy, and are staying away from these coins in droves. Soon the mint will actually start producing many products that buyers are waiting on. The 5 ounce pucks as well as the anticipated HOF coins. Once those start rolling out I think it goes downhill for the CRA coin set as the year progresses. I'd guess there will be a large spike towards the end of the year when sales figures start to show this as a very poor selling product.

Dont forget probably going to be seeing a special Kennedy set towards the end of the year too. This design style doesn't seem to go over well which I have to admit I dont blame people from staying away from. Scouts had the exact same style. On the bright side at least we know the Baseball will be a change of pace from the recycled style weve gotten lately

I got a proof and an uncirculated example. In hand it looks so, so. I didn't know about the liberty bell design but I much prefer it. The design of the protestors are kind of blah. I packed them away and hope they grow on me.
It is commemorating a good thing, but I feel they missed something for WWI.

CRA dollar sales took another hit this past week. Just 612 proof coins were sold, and just 241 uncirculated pieces!
If this new rate holds going forward, the proof could wind up selling less than 50,000 units and the uncirculated version could come in under 20,000.
Yikes!

The last four weeks have not been kind to the ongoing sales total for this silver dollar.
Just 2,407 of the proof version have sold since my February update and just 967 of the uncirculated version have been purchased. This past week, proof sales were below 500 for the first time, uncirculated sales were below 200 for the first time.
If this pace keeps up, the CRA dollar might just be the second coin in a row to not meet its minimum sales threshold for surcharge eligibility.
